Frequently Asked Questions Q: How long will it take to train my dog? A: Each dog will learn at their own pace and training is dependant upon dogs ability to learn and his temperment. However, a dog should have a grasp of basic commands at the end of 30 days. At the end of 60 days a dog will have been learning how to work at further distances and be able to be trusted at working further from the handler while continuing to learn new objectives. A dog at this level will still need constanct corrections to help him know what to do and where to be.At the end of 90 days a dog will hopefully be able to begin some chore work and really understand the commands and be ready to go to work doing everyday chores and helping around the farm... while the dog will still be very green at the end of 90 days and need corrections from time to time will have a very good foundation  under it. Q: Where will the dog stay? A: I have chain link kennels that are  effective at keeping your dog in a comfortable and safe area when not being worked on livestock. We also have a dog proof dog yard that allows the dog to excercize twice a day when we are doing our everyday chores. We do have kennels with roofs for jumpers/climbers, we also have concrete for diggers, and reinforced kennels for those who just tear up kennels. Please let me know if you know your dog has any bad habits so I can kennel them apropriatly Q: Is there training available for Me? A: Yes, while your dog is in training I encourage any and all owners to come out and learn with their dogs at no extra charge. I also offer personal training sessions at any time after your dogs training is over for $25 per visit. Q: Can I bring my dog out for training and not leave him/her? A: Yes, if you would like to work on herding with me on our ranch I charge $25 per visit. Q: How do I Potty train my Puppy A: PAITIENCE AND CONSISTANCY! Remember puppies bladders are not very big and they go often. When not being supervised keep puppy outside if weather permits or in a small crate. (most puppies and dogs wont potty where they sleep). If you think there is a chance they have to pee or poop go take them outside and see! A puppy that has been left outside may not have gone recently, I always tell my puppies “Go Pee” when I want them to potty and I always tell them the “Go Pee” command before coming into the house even if they’ve been outside all day. If they go smelling around house they probably need to potty! Q: How do I pick a puppy that will fit my needs? A: The best way to get help picking a puppy is talk to us and let us know what you are looking for when they become an adult, what types of temperments you would like to have wether it be high energy and herding drive or maybe just avg. herding drive.... talk to us and explain what you want your border collie to do and what you plan to do with your border collie....We will try to point you towards a puppy that will fit your needs as best we can. remember though that when picking a puppy nothing is guaranteed, puppies have a lot to learn and can change their temperments as they grow and mature.
